A look at some often ignored problems in the church

Bus Sindrome

John 4:39-42

When people think, Im going to Heaven because I go to the right church.  While attending with a sound congregation is necessary, it is not a guarantee of salvation.

Similar to the next one, the Coattail sindrome.

Coattail Sindrome

Ezekiel 18:20

When people have the idea of, My parents are member of the church, so Im ok.  Or perhaps its the elders or preacher they think of instead of their parents.

Retirement Sindrome

Titus 1:5-9

Titus 2:1-5

Hebrews 10:35-39

Philippians 3:10-14

When people think that once they get old, they can retire from both work and Christ.

Vacation Sindrome

Psalm 139:7-12

When people think along the lines of, Away from home, away from God.

God sees you wherever you are, you will be held responsible.  Sound congregations in many areas, so why excuse do you have?

Sign Sindrome

1 Corinthians 5:11

Acts 20:28

When people assume that because the sign says Church of Christ, it must be a sound congregation.  Or perhaps they feel that ONLY Church of Christ is a scriptural and appropriate name.

So-called brethren are not true brothers, only church of christers who simply go because thats where theyve always gone.  Theyre really no more saved than are Catholics and Baptists.  Also, many places with Church of Christ on the sign are not sound, but hold to strange doctrines

The Way, Church of God, Church of Christ etc. are all sounds names.

Blind Traditionalism

Matthew 15:1-9

Revelation 22:18-19

Deuteronomy 4:2

When people do things a certain way because, thats the way things have always been.

  • when we pass the collection plate
  • times of services
  • order of services
  • Wednesday services (not on other day), 2 services on Sunday

Pastor Principle

3 John 1:9

Titus 1:5-9

1 Timothy 3:1-7

When people view a local evangelist as a primary leader of the Church, and allow him powers and responsibilities that are not rightfully his.

Using the term pastor as the world does: a leader/preacher who more or less runs things.
